Types of stomach problems

There are many different types of stomach problems that can affect people. Some common stomach problems include:

Indigestion or dyspepsia: This is a general term for discomfort or pain in the upper abdomen. It can be caused by eating too much, eating spicy or fatty foods, or eating too quickly.

Heartburn or acid reflux: This occurs when stomach acid backs up into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest or throat.
Ulcers: These are sores that can form in the lining of the stomach or small intestine. They can be caused by an infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori or by taking certain medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Gastroenteritis: This is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines that is often caused by a viral or bacterial infection. It can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Constipation: This is a condition in which a person has difficulty passing stools or has infrequent bowel movements. It can be caused by a lack of fiber in the diet, not drinking enough fluids, or not getting enough physical activity.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS): This is a disorder that affects the large intestine and can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel movements.

Celiac disease: This is an autoimmune disorder that is triggered by the consumption of gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. It can cause digestive symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating.
