Kidney dialysis: is a medical treatment that is used to filter waste and excess fluids from the blood when the kidney are no longer able to perform these functions effectively. Dialysis is usually needed when a person has kidney failure, which can be caused by variety of conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and autoimmune disease. Types of dialysis: there are two types of dialysis : hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis involves using a machine to filter the blood outside the body. The patient's blood is pumped through a filter, called a dialysis membrane, which removes the waste products and excess fluids. The clean blood is then returned to the body. Hemodialysis is typically done three times a week at a dialysis center and each treatment lasts for about three to four hours.
